Hello, everyone!
Welcome to episode 25!! Gees, how time flies. It’s a short post this week, since I was only at university for two days. The rest of the week I spent working on assignments, the group project, or just relaxing. The group project is almost complete! And I’m also down to my last hand full of assignments (one due this coming Wednesday, and the others due by the 19th of November). Let’s get into it, shall we.
Monday
Monday started out like any other – up early for a meeting with the client. Traffic into the city that morning was really bad for some unknown reason. I remember seeing a couple of fire trucks somewhere along my bus’ route in, so that could have been the reason. When I finally made it into university, I spent some time reading emails and watching YouTube videos just to clear my mind a little until the guys turned up. Only one of them turned up early, though. When he got there, we pretty much just chatted about the project while waiting for the meeting time. The other member in the group turned up just as we were starting the meeting. It went pretty quickly this week, due to our client accidentally double-booking herself. We didn’t mind much, though – only had a couple of things to show. So we quickly went over our work with her, then let her leave and just talked with our lecturer about back end code we’ve finished and next week (the presentation). That took up the rest of our meeting time, at which point we went back to the BESE lab to do some work (well…two of us, anyway – the other member did other stuff). In the time between the end of the meeting and our lecture at 4, we got a hell of a lot of code written. I was impressed with what we were able to accomplish. Anyway, at 4 we all went downstairs for the final (review) lecture for HISE. That went decently well. I actually remembered what I’d consider a fair amount of the course content. At the end of the lecture, a few of us were kept back to fill out a survey, then I just went home.
Thursday
Of course, the two days I went into university this week were early days. This one started out a little different than usual. For MWN, I had to print out an A1 size poster to go with my research paper. Since we don’t have an A1 printer at home, and I couldn’t find anywhere in the university that has an A1 printer, I had to get my dad to print it at his work. To do that, and get it in time for the poster presentation session, I had to go in with him. That was somewhat fun. The first time we tried to print it, it came out sideways on the paper. And the second time we tried to print it, it didn’t print at all. So we got got one of the guys down in the printer room to print it for us, which worked perfectly. At that point, we had to rush into the city for the presentation. Somehow, I actually got there early (or, at least, on time). Everyone that was there set up their posters and for 2 hours we pretty much just stood around chatting with others or doing nothing at all. At the end of the presentation session, we packed up the posters then went to a room in the law building (surprisingly) for the final MWN lecture. That was pretty average. It was on security of mobile devices (particularly to do with IoT devices). At the end of the lecture, I went up to the BESE lab to do work on the group project. When I got up there, I found one of the members of my group working on his final presentation for one of his courses. I chatted with him for a bit before getting to work. In the 3 hours I was there, I was able to complete 2 tasks that had been sitting on the group’s task list for quite a while. I was proud of myself for being able to do that. At that point, a bit after 4, I decided to just go home.
Round Up
There ends yet another week at university. It’s been a really eventful, and somewhat stressful, week. I’ve enjoyed it, though. And it should be less stressful from now on, since there are less assignments to be completed. Next week should be a lot more fun than a lot of other weeks. This week is technically the final week (and episode) before exams. My group will be meeting up next week before the final presentation, though. So I will do an episode next weekend, before the exam special the week after.
Thanks for reading this episode.
Robert
