Reaper Quicky #33

I’m probably a bit slow to the uptake for this, but oh well.

In the past week or two, I’ve come across a very strange phenomenon that’s pretty much gone right around the world. It’s called “Gangnam Style”. It’s a song released by the Kpop (Korean-pop) rapper, PSY. You can see the video below. What’s surprised me is that the song’s been out since July! Since then, it’s seemed to have gained world wide popularity.

Strangely, I somewhat like it. Not really for the music, but for the idea behind it. PSY has said in an interview with CNN that the song is poking fun at the types of people who are trying to be someone they aren’t (referenced from here) – Gangnam is an upper-class district of Seoul, Korea.

What do you think of it? Do you think it’s cool? Funny? Annoying? Will you join the hype as it continues to gain popularity? Or is it just another fad to you? Leave your opinions in the comments below.
