Reaper Quicky #39

Hey everyone!

My family have a TV in our dining room, which mainly only gets turned on around dinner time. For the most part, we just watch whatever random shows are on (usually Australian digital channel 11). For a while now, one of the shows that has been on is The Brady Bunch. To start off with, they were showing later seasons of the show (where the kids are grown up), however in the last month they’ve gone back to the start of the series (where the kids are much younger). In these earlier seasons, the show’s theme song is sung by a band with what seems like southern roots (their accents sound somewhat southern American in nature). I’m mentioning all of this because I’ve strangely gotten in the habit of randomly singing the Brady Bunch theme (in a very heavy southern accent), just for a laugh.

I haven’t asked a question of you all for a while, so here’s one for you: Have you ever done something similar? Do you still do whatever it is? Or do you think I’m just very strange, and should get some sort of help? Leave your opinions in the comments below!

Reaper Quicky #38

Hey everyone!

I’m a bit slow to get another post up for you all, like usual. I’ve had a really busy week, though. So just wanted to catch you all up on where things are at the moment. The project is almost complete! My team’s finished testing the system, and we’re just about to “deliver” it to our clients. Hopefully, that means I should now get a chance to work on my own projects (ie. my websites).

Since I don’t have to worry so much about the project any more, I’ll be posting more often on here (at least, I hope). Since I’m still not sure what I should make posts about, I’d appreciate some suggestions on topics. Feel free to suggest anything! Just post them in the comments below, and I’ll consider them.

Reaper Quicky #37

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update for you all. The group project that I’ve been a part of with my friends since mid last year has almost come to an end! All we’ve got planned left to do is test the full system. It’s actually really exciting to see it finally finished, since it’s going to be used by real-world people (instead of as a university assignment that may not be used again, even by myself). I’m looking forward to seeing how well received the system is within the intended industry, and whether it’s just the start of something even bigger.

On a side note, now that the project is starting to wind down, I should be able to spend a bit more time developing for myself. I recently released the “Reaper Bar” (that dark thing at the top of this page). Each link in that bar takes you to its respective website (Ctrl + click opens the site in a new tab). That bar is only the beginning of what I have planned!

Blast from the Past

Hello all!

I had a read of my ‘Welcome’ series of posts (here), just to remind myself of what I had posted there (influenced by a recent visitor who also read that series, among other posts). It’s amazing how much my writing style has changed since I wrote those posts – I’m more laid back now, I think. However, I find it more amazing that, overall as a person, I haven’t really changed as much as I thought I had.

I’m still happily flawed. Still opinionated but open minded. Still fairly friendly. I’m still a gamer and a coder. And my mind is still a huge mess. Admittedly, my mind’s less of a mess than when I wrote that post, but still bad enough to allow me to say and do stupid things on the odd occasion.

The first post in that series (and, in fact, first post ever) I said I didn’t have many plans for this blog of mine. That’s actually still very much the case. I did find a series I make weekly posts for the two years I’ve had this set up (my Weekly Catchup series), but I don’t think I’ll be able to continue that from this year – no more university, and depending what happens with my work status, I may not be allowed to discuss what I’m working on.

I’m thinking, since the latest post in that series is from back in September 2011, I should write another introductory post. I’m not sure how different it will be from what’s already there, though (aside from maybe a change in the language used). I guess we all will just have to wait and see what I come up with.

As a challenge, you should take a look back at my older posts (one or two should be enough), and tell me in the comments below how much you think I’ve changed since I made them. Also, tell us how much you think you’ve changed in the same period of time. Any other comments are welcome as well.

Thanks for reading this post.

Recent Happenings

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my first post for 2013! It’s been a while since I’ve talked about what’s been happening for me, so I thought I might catch you all up on the recent happenings of my life.

For the most part, I’ve just been working with the guys to try and finish our project – three days a week we all get online and code, discuss anything that needs discussing, etc. We’ve been doing this for the past 5 weeks (we had originally planned for the work to take around 2 weeks). To be honest, I’m really enjoying doing the work. It’s helped to give me ideas for my own personal projects, and given me something to keep my mind off other things.

Christmas and New Years has come and gone (as you all hopefully should know). For the most part, both were pretty quiet for me. Christmas was the usual affair – relatives came over for gift giving and lunch. This year was a little quieter than past years, though. I kinda liked it. New Years, on the other hand, was a pretty boring night. I pretty much just spent it playing games and watching TV – didn’t have much else to do.

I’ve played some pretty good games lately, including Assassin’s Creed 3, Spec Ops: The Line, and Halo 4 (Halo 4 being the most recent). The former two of these were really thought-invoking in their respective storyline – AC3 revolving around the theme of “Salvation”, and Spec Ops’ use of flashbacks and death scene messages to make the player think about their actions. Of course, Spec Ops isn’t the best shooter around, but I thought the game made up for it with the story. I’ve also somewhat gotten into Feed The Beast (modded Minecraft), since that’s now what I’ve got the server running (for those that don’t know, check out the map site). I haven’t updated the map site for the new server as yet, but I’ll hopefully get around to doing that soon.

I finally got time to finish watching my box set of Burn Notice over these holidays. The set was given to me as a birthday present from one of my best friends, and I’d only had time to watch a couple of seasons during the year. I really enjoyed watching them, and catching up with the episodes I’d missed when they were on TV. Now I’ve started watching the first season of Lie To me, which I received as a present for Christmas this year. After watching the first four episodes, I’m already seeing things I missed when I watched them on TV.

I think that’s about all that’s happened for me since I last made one of these catchup posts. Thanks for reading this post.

Here Comes Another One

Hey all!

That’s right, another year is upon us! 2013! I really can’t believe it’s been another year. It feels like only a few months ago that I was writing about 2012 coming around.

I’m sure many of you are out celebrating the new year when this gets posted. Personally, I’m probably doing the same (for those that are interested, I’m scheduling this about a week and a half ahead of time). How have you decided to celebrate the new year? Are you enjoying (or did you enjoy) the festivities? Have you settled on any new years resolutions as yet? If so, what is it? Post your answers in the comments below.

I hope you all enjoy/enjoyed your night, and I’ll see you in 2013!
